Among the thirty-six archbishops who received the Pallium that day, were three Poles – Archbishop Jędraszewski, Archbishop Jozef Górzyński from Warmia (Olsztyn) and Archbishop Tadeusz Wojda from Białystok.
It is worth mentioning the circumstances of the receiving of the Pallium by the great predecessor of Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski – Archbishop Karol Wojtyła, who was appointed Metropolitan of Cracow on 30 December 1963. Almost a year later, on 10 October 1964, during the third session of the Second Vatican Council, he received the Pallium from the hands of the Pope Paul VI. Archbishop Wojtyla informed about this fact by writing a letter to the priests of the Cracow Archdiocese.
Pallium, as a liturgical honor badge, is worn during liturgical celebrations both by the Pope and by metropolitans in their metropolis. The Pallium is a round ribbon that is put on the shoulders so that its two ends run down the chest and back. There are six black wool crosses on the Pallium. Each Pallium is made of wool from two lambs, which the Pope blesses on the feast of Sts. Agnes.
