On Sunday afternoon, an extraordinary meeting took place in Wojtyla’s living room which was attended by the guests: Danuta Ciesielska, Maria Ciesielska – Pikul and Stanisław Rybicki, members of the papal „family”. As they pointed out, today „the family” is composed of at least four generations.

Wojtyła’s small apartment was full to the brim. Everyone wanted to receive the answer to the question of the title „How do we remember him?”. They also told personal stories: about kayak trips, on train journeys, mountain hikes or children’s parties organized in Franciszkańska street. Where were they when Karol Wojtyla received episcopal consecration? What did they feel when they heard Habemus Papam, joy or regret? The regret that nothing will be the same again. Among many anecdotes, Mrs. Danuta revealed that every year at Christmas and Easter she sent a typical Polish poppy seed cake to Pope John Paul II and he loved it.

It was the first meeting of the cycle „We remember him this way”. It was led by the priest Andrzej Gołębiowski SDB, head of the editorial board of the TVP Kraków Catholic programs. The series of meetings was organized under the patronage of TVP Kraków, Radio eM and the weekly Gość Niedzielny. We invite you to participate in the next meeting in June!
